Principal's welcome

Welcome to the website of the German International School Sydney

Founded in 1989, the German International School Sydney (GISS), offers a complete multi-lingual school education from Preschool to Year 12.

Our website is aimed to provide you with a snapshot into the uniquely multicultural and nurturing environment our co-educational institution operates within.  But it will also provide an opportunity for prospective families to discover the integrated multi-lingual educational programs on offer at the German International School Sydney (GISS).

You will also be pleasantly surprised to learn that no prior knowledge of the German language affords students of any age to begin a schooling career at the German International School Sydney (GISS).  However, all students from three to 19 years old have the opportunity to learn German and many even obtain a level of proficiency that allows them to undertake selected academic subjects in German. The school also boasts incredibly focused and accomplished French and Spanish language programs and our multi-lingual success is a direct result of smaller class sizes and a teaching format that allows for authentic language scenarios.

In January 2015, GISS had adapted the New South Wales school calendar year.  In collaboration with our parents and students, our teachers will work together to guide all of our students through the transition process.  We are all looking forward to embracing a new school year in 2015.

Our highly qualified and dedicated team of teachers guide and support every student to develop their full academic potential and to become competent, responsible and independent adults.  This is clearly evident in our continued academic success from our Preschool receiving an ‘exceeding’ rating as part of the National Quality Framework, our above average (in 17 out of 20 cases) NAPLAN results in 2014, to the crowning achievement of yet another, very strong 2013/14 Year 12 / IB cohort scoring 100% pass rate.

At GISS we hold regular Open Days, however, we also welcome potential families to contact the school directly to arrange private school tours and to discuss their child’s individual requirements.  We also appreciate that considering a new school is a major family decision and as such to alleviate any concerns we encourage school trial days.  From Preschool to Year 12, we invite students interested in joining the GISS community into our classrooms to meet fellow students and teachers.
