Our new Principal Dr Lorenz Metzger

Our new Principal Dr Lorenz Metzger

Dear school community,

I would like to take the opportunity to introduce myself to you.

Early on, my studies in Physics and Biology led me to Philadelphia, USA, and later my professional career as a teacher to the German-Swiss International School in Hong Kong. At both such different places I learned to appreciate the exciting impulses of an international environment, different cultures and systems and intensive cooperation. Above all, I enjoyed the collaboration with open-minded, positive thinking people, who I also have had the opportunity to meet in Australia.

For four years I was the Principal of a German Secondary School with over 1100 students and my wife and I have a large family with five children aged from 10 to 28 years. Hence we are very familiar with many issues that move children and adolescents and we have experienced many diverse education and training systems through to vocational training and university. I would now like to bring my experience to GISS, which, as an integrated system, leads from Kindergarten to the IB.

To collaboratively utilise the windows of opportunities with you, to promote identity and the power of identification, to balance continuity and change, and to keep our sights set firmly on the present and the future of the school and especially on the younger and older students is truly a special challenge which I very much look forward to.

Kind regards,

Dr Lorenz Metzger
