Harmony Day "everyone belongs"
Harmony Day is held every year on 21 March to coincide with the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. The message of Harmony Day is everyone belongs. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone.
This is in line with the goals of our KidsMatter team, which is why we chose this year’s Harmony Day as our launch day.
KidsMatter is a framework that promotes children‘s mental health and wellbeing in Australian schools. The goal is to create and continue to develop a positive school community. A focus is the social and emotional learning of students, through mutual cooperation with parents and carers, in order to support the mental health of all students.
A day that was full of workshops, learning and harmony, the students enjoyed a multicultural picnic, assembly and a sharing of their unique, individual cultures. The school was a sea of bright, vibrant colours as many students sported an array of orange (the official colour of harmony) to celebrate the multicultural make-up of not only GISS, but also of Australia & the wider world!
