Student exchange

From 21st to 22nd February the German speaking students from the French School Lycée Condorcet had the opportunity to spend two days at GISS and discovered a different school system whilst being immersed in the German language.

This great exchange program between our school and  Lycée Condorcet started in November 2017 with Lycée Condorcet’s German speaking students from Year 8 and 9 hosting 14 of our French speaking students.

The exchange was successfully organised for the first-time last year. Due to our distance to the French School the exchange was extended to two days.

Our students arrived for the morning break and were welcomed by their French school buddies. In order to know each other a little better before the first meeting, buddies and exchange students had emailed each other in their language of study in the week leading up to the exchange.

The exchange students spent two regular school days at the French School and at night were hosted by French speaking families of their school community.

This exchange was at first met with apprehension by some students. Shyness and worry about spending the night in an unknown family with different cultural and language background were their main concerns.

However, hearing about the students’ feedback the next day, both Mrs. Matolcsy, my colleague at the French School, and myself were very pleased with their experiences in their host families. We both would like to extend our gratitude to the host families for their hospitality!

We look forward to further exchanges.

Warm regards,

Belinda Ozodabasyan & Regine Matolcsy (French & German Teacher)
