The German International School Sydney is looking for a reliable and skilled Grounds and Maintenance Person to help keep our school facilities and grounds in top condition. If you have a background as a handyman, a passion for maintaining clean, safe environments, and a proactive attitude, we would love to hear from you!

Key Responsibilities:

  • General Maintenance: Carry out routine maintenance, repairs, and improvements across the school grounds and buildings as advised by the Facility Manager
  • Handyman: Carry out minor repairs in painting, plumbing, and carpentry
  • Event Support: Set up and pack down equipment, furniture, and staging for school events, meetings, and assemblies.
  • Furniture Management: Move, arrange, and install furniture across classrooms, offices, and communal spaces as needed.
    Groundskeeping: Assist with minor landscaping tasks like mowing, trimming, and watering, while the landscaping company handles overall garden maintenance.
  • Routine Checks: Perform regular safety inspections and minor repairs to ensure facilities and grounds meet health and safety standards.
  • Ad Hoc Duties: Respond to requests for maintenance and repair tasks that arise on a day-to-day basis.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Previous experience in grounds / general maintenance and repairs in a school, or large grounds area is advantageous but not essential
  • Able to follow instructions and ensure effective time management
  • A proactive and flexible attitude, ready to respond to the diverse needs of a school environment.
  • Ability to manage your own time to meet deadlines
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Practical skills in basic carpentry, painting, and general repair work.
  • Ability to operate maintenance tools
  • Physically fit, able to lift and move furniture and equipment as required.
  • Strong safety awareness and safe work ethic / Understanding of OH&S regulations
  • Current Driver’s License

Please note - You must have or ability to acquire a valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) and a valid National Police History Certificate.
