The German International School Sydney (GISS) is currently seeking an experienced, committed, and passionate Primary School Teacher (Kindergarten to Year 4) to join our team at the start of Term 1 in 2025.
GISS is a small international school offering a bilingual education programme (German and English) from Preschool to the bilingual IB-Diploma. It is registered by NESA and accredited by the Federal Republic of Germany as a German School Abroad.
The school is a highly reputable co-educational school that has a rich history of quality education and aims to provide an enjoyable workplace for its staff. GISS has been awarded “Excellent German School Abroad” in September 2017; and its Preschool continuously holds the rating “Exceeding National Quality Standards” in all 7 quality areas. As a bilingual school (English/ German), it is preferable the candidate can teach in both languages of instruction.
Applicants are required to have:
An appropriate tertiary teacher qualification (from Germany, Switzerland or Austria) for Primary School Education
- Right to work in Australia
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as Primary School homeroom teacher
- German language skills (Native speaker), excellent English language skills
- Documented history of professional development in a variety of areas (e.g. stage-based teaching, wellbeing, collaboration)
- Current NESA teacher accreditation (or be eligible for accreditation, which requires an appropriate tertiary teacher qualification)
- the ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, and parents
- Working with Children Check Clearance
Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform conscientiously and competently the duties, both teaching and non-teaching, as assigned by the Head of Primary or the School Leadership Team.
- Perform such duties as are customarily rostered and shared by all staff, and such other duties as may be agreed upon by the Head of Primary or the School Leadership Team and teacher.
- Take part in professional development activities and other in-service courses provided by the GISS or recommended by the Head of Primary or the School Leadership Team.
- Help foster good relations between parents, the community and the school.
- Help promote a spirit of unity among the staff.
- Be actively involved in supporting the school’s co-curricular activities and special events.
- Plan effectively for deep learning using the Curriculum through a structured inquiry-based approach.
- Effectively monitor, assess and report on student performance.
- Report to parents at interview and through written reports.
- Respond to the needs of individual students as required.
- Supervise classes of absent teachers when required.
- Perform playground and bus duty on a regular basis.
- Guide student behaviour positively and maintain a healthy learning environment.
- Attend Parent-Teacher Interviews and Parent Information Evenings when required.
- Demonstrated effectiveness and experience as a teacher for primary students.
- Being a team player and contribute to a multi-disciplinary team.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate effectively with parents, students, and colleagues.
- Maintain professional competence by participating in staff development activities, curriculum development meetings, and other professional opportunities.
- Being committed to meeting the needs of a diverse student population in a bilingual learning environment.
- Embracing the culture of a multilingual community in an inclusive, non-selective school.
- Experience in teaching students with diverse learning needs is desirable.

Pay: $85,000.00 – $120,000.00 per year
