Our best ever 

The 2014 GISS IB Diploma results are our best ever since we introduced the IB Diploma Programme in 2002.

Our students achieved a 100% pass rate (world average is 79%) with an average passing grade of 35.8; significantly above the global average of 29.81 and 0.2 points better than our previous best of 35.6 from 2013.

We are currently in the process of ‘regrading’ for those who were close to the upper grade boundary in some of their subjects – this procedure may yield even higher grades, which will boost our school’s average grade further.

GISS graduates attained the top score of seven points, a record sixteen times: in English A, German A, German ab initio, Spanish B & ab initio, French B, Economics, History, Biology, and Maths. Three of our students achieved all three available bonus points for their work in Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay.

Six of the 12-strong cohort will be eligible for Association of Australasian IB Schools (AAIBS) Merit Awards in February 2015 for scoring 7 points in one or more of their subjects or an A in TOK and/or the Extended Essay, and two of them, Swantje Bloens and Olivia Merz, will receive the AAIBS Distinction Award for attaining 40 points or more in their diploma. In fact, special recognition and congratulations go to Olivia, who achieved a perfect score of 45 – well done Olivia! This incredible achievement is a first for GISS and one that will be a challenge to repeat. According to IB statistics this outstanding achievement, was only attained by 146 students of 135 534 IBDP graduates world-wide, in May 2014; just over 0.1%.
