This term, GISS proudly welcomed our new Principal, Michael Cordes, and Business Manager, Manuela Baumann, along with 23 new students and staff. To mark this special occasion, we held a vibrant Welcome Assembly filled with meaningful traditions and heartfelt celebrations.
The event commenced with a traditional Smoking Ceremony and Didgeridoo Performance by Darran Williams, creating a culturally rich and respectful atmosphere. We were also honored by the presence of Dr. Sophie Scamps, Federal MP for Mackellar, and Deputy Generalkonsul of Germany, Karl-Heinz Schmitz, who added to the significance of the day with their special visit.
Chairman of the Board, Hansjoerg Knieling, Deputy Chair of the PRC, Mark Uhlemann, and representatives from the SRC, Kenza and Daniel, extended their warm welcomes to Michael and Manuela. In keeping with a cherished German tradition, both Michael and Manuela received their very own 'Zuckertüte', symbolizing a sweet start to their journey with GISS.
The assembly was further enlivened by captivating performances from the GISS band, choir, and our newly formed staff choir, showcasing the musical talents within our community. Following the formalities, we enjoyed a fantastic BBQ and meet-and-greet with parents, fostering a sense of camaraderie and connection.
We look forward to many more events like this, celebrating the growth and unity of our GISS family.
