Montessori Model United Nations Conference in New York

13 GISS students from Year 6, 8 and 10 travelled to New York to participate at the Montesorri Model United Nations (MMUN) Conference.

MMUN is a simulation of the UN General Assembly where students assume the role of UN delegates for a certain country and then debate a specific topic with other students from around the world. Our students worked on their topics since September 2018 and represented Honduras (Year 6), Andorra (Year 8) and Finland (Year 10).

The topics discussed were quite varied and range from the elimination of racism, the responsibility of international organisations or the right of self-determination. The students worked intensively on these topics and had to write a position paper and a speech which they presented during the conference. The conference was held in the General Assembly Hall at the United Nations Headquarters.

To show their appreciation, the students who took part at the MMUN Conference presented flowers to Mrs Hessling and Mrs Ritonnale.
