NAPLAN - GISS Top 3 on Northern Beaches

GISS has been ranked as one of the top three Primary and Secondary schools on the Northern Beaches, according to the latest NAPLAN data (National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy) released by acara, the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting authority.

GISS also remains in the top 100 schools in NSW and therefore solidifies its standing as one of the best Primary and Secondary schools on the Northern Beaches and in NSW.

GISS Principal, Dr Lorenz Metzger, commented: “I am thrilled that GISS has once again achieved great success in the annual NAPLAN scores, especially as we are non-selective. It is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our students and teachers that both our Primary and Secondary School placed third on the Northern Beaches. I would like to congratulate our students and extend my heartfelt thanks to our highly qualified and dedicated teachers who have contributed to these outstanding results.”

Assessed on reading, writing, spelling, grammar and numeracy skills, the NAPLAN exams are rolled out annually to Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. Even though GISS does not specifically prepare its students for these exams, it is evident that the school’s educational approach and philosophy translates into measurable and above-average learning outcomes that will open many opportunities for its students.

Dr Lorenz Metzger continues: “Given our strong focus on science, maths, languages, and academics and by being one of the few schools that offer the IB Diploma Programme in Years 11 and 12, GISS naturally attracts academically strong students. While our school is so much more than ranking and awards, it is evident that our students' strong NAPLAN results are a reflection of our school's commitment to provide quality education in an international school environment.”

GISS’ approx. 400 students are part of an international community, with about half of them coming from Germany, Austria, Switzerland and many other countries and the other half from Australia. Knowledge of the German language is not a prerequisite and the IB Diploma Programme is offered in English or bilingually with selected subjects in German and English.

“Our rigorous bilingual education program sets us apart from other schools, offering our students a unique advantage in their future studies and career paths”, explains Dr Metzger. “As we celebrate this success, we also remain committed to continuously improving our educational standards and encourage our students to explore their passions and interests while striving for individual academic success.”

GISS is located in Terrey Hills. Public and private bus transport are available.
