Thirteen students of German International School Sydney (GISS) recently attended the Montessori Model United Nations (MMUN) conference in New York. The incoming UN delegates of the 5th, 7th and 9th grade represented Honduras, Andorra and Finland during the three-day conference. The MMUN took place at United Nations headquarters. At the re-enacted UN General Assembly, students discussed current and pressing issues such as racism and self-determination and made their own suggestions. Linus Hessling from 7th grade was allocated the topic Women and Development and represented Andorra. He was in the studio with us and told us about the experience. His mother, Simone Hessling, one of the teachers who prepared the students at the Giss for the conference, adds her experiences with the project.
